A brand new contemporary housing development in Cambridge demanded an equally modern approach to the garden design. The client wanted to dispose of the lawn altogether, often a wise option in today’s tiny gardens. This opened up the possibility of a dramatic courtyard with rendered raised beds and composite decking, which will not become slippery when wet. The deck is located in the sunniest spot, but is overlooked on all sides, so a pergola will allow for the addition of shade sails overhead and to the sides for an intimate feel. The bold colour was the client’s choice and it works brilliantly.
